Mariposa

Mariposa, named after the Mexican Monarch butterfly, was built only four years ago by Olga Hernandez, one of San Miguel's leading architects.  Painted in soft Colonial pink, the villa is situated along one of San Miguel's prettiest streets and only minutes from the center of town, the Parroquia, the shops, galleries and restaurants.  Stone pavers lead through carved antique portals into an open courtyard featuring a large central fountain and a three-story bell tower; an ideal spot to enjoy your morning coffee.  On this level, there are two professionally decorated bedrooms with antique furnishings and and Spanish accessories.  Heated floors, a fireplace and overhead fans ensure year-round comfort.  The romantic master suite has a four-poster canopy bed and the adjacent bathroom has a tub and shower.  The guest bedroom suite, with two single beds, is decorated with a Bohemian flair and has its own stone fireplace.  Its en suite bathroom has a shower.  Both bedrooms have a TV and security safe.The a/c living room, dining room and kitchen are on the second floor under dramatic boveda ceilings. White  brick floors are scattered with tapestry rugs.  There is a large fireplace.  Comfortable seating invites viewing the large flat screen TV or listening to your favorite music.   The third floor sunning terrace with Jacuzzi or "spool" is perfect for quiet reading or sipping on frosted Margaritas.  As dusk settles over town, the candlelit rooftop terrace can host up to 10 guests for open air dining while enjoying 360 degrees of breathtaking views over town with its famous 300 year old Parroquia.  Heated floors and fireplaces provide comfort on cooler evenings.  This level has a barbeque, a refrigerator for wine and soft drinks and a dumb waiter which serves all four levels of the house.Unique features: Permanent house staff: Jose Villanueva and his sister Lidia, providing maintenance and maid service daily, except Sundays and Holidays.  A cook is available on request at an additional charge.  Free Vonage long distance to U.S. and Canada.  Internet service.
